The 4400: The Promicin War

by Arieanna on April 9th, 2007

The 4400 is facing a new war. Suddenly, anyone can take promicin. There is a 50/50 chance they could die… or they could develop an ability.

A war erupts. There is fear. Fear of others. Mistrust. Fear of the government.

From my interview with Chad Faust:

4400Guide: You mentioned getting turned in for promicin, so is that going to be illegal now?
CF: Yeah, if you get caught having taken promicin, or being in possession of it, you go to jail for life. With no trial. Of course, I’m all against that. One, because I have taken it. And two, because I think it’s a violation of human rights.

I don’t know if he [Tom] necessarily agrees with the law, but he has to enforce it. Him and Diana are in this gray area of enforcing laws that affect the people they love. They are in the middle there, getting hit around from both sides. There is a very specific scene that deals with that conflict between Kyle and Tom. And, it’s continuing, I don’t know where it’s going to go.

4400Guide: What is Shawn’s role now? Which camp does he belong do?
CF: He’s creating his own. Like all the characters, he’s trying to make the best path for humanity. But his seems to be the more middle of the road liberal camp. He’s not on Jordan’s side anymore - he actually puts himself against him. Him and I have a huge conflict over that. And he’s not with the government, although he’s cooperating with them at times. But he’s also standing up to them by opening the 4400 Center. So, he’s creating his own, and trying to be about the 4400 and their reintegration back. So, he’s kind of the old-school. The one who’s staying true to the original vision of what Jordan Collier and the 4400 were all about. And everyone else have now jumped leaps ahead and tried to move onto a new place.

Would you support the government for putting people away for taking promicin? Whom are they protecting?

I think it’s a typical us vs. them mentality we’ve seen throughout history. Religious wars. Segregation. We bring out the basest part of our characters when faced with the fear of the unknown.

In the end, we are all at danger because of our fears. Those feared are hated for their abilities. And envied also. Those with abilities hate for being feared. And become dangerous. The government both protects and punishes those who have abilities.

And somewhere in there there is a grain of hope, for a bright future. Everyone is fighting for it. Who has the better way?
